Water Price Positive for Thrifty Users

July 2, 2001

Canberra water users who are economical stand to gain from the water pricing charges just announced.

Over 30 per cent of domestic users use 225 kilolitres or less and they will see little or no change to their bills.

Users consuming 280 kilolitres or more will see their costs rise by 5.6%. Large consumers using over 1000 kilolitres will pay 5.9% more in real terms.

Paul Perkins, Chief Executive of ACTEW Corporation said "These pricings will encourage efficiency of our precious water resources. We need to reinforce the message that water needs to be treated with respect.

"Another positive is that sewerage charges have been kept to a rise of less than one per cent for domestic consumers. This is in line with the decision of the regulator that such charges must be kept to rises of less than one per cent. Such a small increase keeps the costs for the average Canberra consumer low", Mr Perkins said.
