Green thumbs flock to grand opening
February 14, 2012
The Canberra Discovery Garden was opened to a welcoming crowd of over 1,000 people on Sunday despite the rain, hail and shine experienced throughout the day. Special guests including Australian gardening guru Don Burke, with ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher, joined ACTEW Chairman John Mackay and ACTEW Managing Director Mark Sullivan, to officially open the garden.
Visitors were invited to enjoy the new space to explore Canberra’s unique climate, soils and geology. The garden is designed to teach residents how to achieve a beautiful, sustainable and water efficient Canberra garden, in any season. Gardening experts including garden designer and writer Cedric Bryant and Irrigation designer Austin Goodfellow were on hand with ACTEW staff to answer visitor questions, including how they could make changes to their own garden at home.
ACTEW Corporation would like to thank the entire team from the National Arboretum Canberra for their support, as well as the volunteer community reference group members that donated their time to help ACTEW develop the design concepts behind the garden.
The Canberra Discovery Garden is located at the National Arboretum Canberra, and will be open to the public monthly for talks, tours and workshops. Click here for details.
