Working with the community
Large water supply projects affect people and the environment. Throughout the planning stages of the Murrumbidgee to Googong Water Transfer ACTEW has engaged with the community and stakeholders to understand key concerns and community priorities. We acknowledge the impact of the project on local land owners and are committed to working with them to minimise impacts and return the land to original condition, or better.
Through public meetings and forums, one-on-one consultations, newsletters and project updates, ACTEW has endeavoured to be proactive and transparent. Community feedback has been taken on board and where possible this has influenced the project, including the pipeline alignment. Importantly submissions to environmental assessments have been responded to and incorporated into the project.
Through a dedicated community engagement and stakeholder manager a number of methods will continue to be used to understand the views of the local community and stakeholders and to keep people informed and involved for the life of the project.
These include:
- Community meetings and information sessions.
- Community newsletters.
- Local media articles and advertisements.
- A dedicated community information line and website.
- Correspondence and letter box drops.
- Presentations and ongoing discussions with local indigenous groups.
- Direct contact with landowners including the development of specific Property Interaction Plans for all affected landowners.
