The purification process

The purification process

Advanced technology already exists that can treat used water to a standard safe for human consumption. The Water Purification Plant would use well-proven technology to produce water using a multiple barrier approach. ACTEW has investigated which combination of technological barriers would be the best option. The preferred option includes the following processes:

Microfiltration \ Ultrafiltration

This step will remove microscopic particles, contaminants and pathogens.

Reverse Osmosis

This step will remove pollutants such as salts, organic compounds and viruses.

Ultraviolet disinfectant \ Advanced oxidation

This step is used as an additional safety barrier, ensuring that any trace organic material is destroyed.

The Water Purification Scheme would also take advantage of nature's own water treatment process by letting the produced water flow into our natural environment.
