Lawn and Plants at parks, sports amenities, golf courses and public gardens

Water consumption is to be reduced by 35% of the equivalent season in 2005/06. Each organisation is required to submit a strategy to ACTEW identifying how it will meet the required percentage reduction.
During November 2008 only.
Exemptions may be granted for increased watering of lawns at parks, sports amenities and golf courses for the purpose of converting existing lawns to warm season grasses (such as Couch or soft-leaf Buffalo) during November 2008.
As a condition of any exemption granted, the conversion of any lawns must be undertaken in accordance with the Turf Grass Association’s Best practice for conversion to Warm Season Grasses in the ACT Region (available at http://www.tgaa.asn.au) |

Public ponds and fountains
What is allowed use? |
To top up a pond that supports wildlife such as fish, but not birds. |
Exemptions will only be issued to top up ponds that support wildlife such as fish or other animals that rely on the water’s oxygen supply.
Exemptions for the operation of fountains will only be considered if the operation of the fountain is the only means of providing aeration to support fish and other pond wildlife. |
Public Swimming Pools
What is allowed use? |
To top up an existing public swimming pool. |
Existing public swimming pools may only be topped up once an exemption is issued. Applications must be in writing to the Water Conservation Office.

Public Swimming Pools
What is allowed use? |
To empty and/or refill a public swimming pool to enable repairs to be carried out. |
No exemptions will be granted unless for health/safety reasons or if major repairs need to be carried out to fix leakages.
Exemption applications must include details/evidence of structural damage resulting in significant loss of water.

What is allowed use? |

Water carriers may be granted an exemption to fill or top up water storage tanks on premises that do not have access to potable water through the mains water supply. |
