Incident at Googong Dam

ACTEW Corporation confirms that a staff member of a sub contractor involved with the Googong Dam Spillway Remediation project at Googong Dam was involved in an incident on site on Friday 8 January 2010.

At approximately 9.15am, a drilling rig operating on the project fell from the spillway and came to rest approximately 18m below.

The driver was injured in the incident. Site first aid officers rendered initial assistance until paramedics from Queanbeyan arrived.

The driver was taken to Canberra Hospital for treatment - his condition was stable. His family was notified.

Site staff were offered counselling in relation to the incident.

Police, fire brigade and safety investigators from Comcare and Workcover were in attendance and commenced investigations. The CFMEU was also in attendance.

The Bulk Water Alliance (the alliance between ACTEW Corporation, Abigroup, GHD and John Holland that is delivering the project on behalf of ACTEW Corporation) is cooperating fully with the investigations of the authorities.
