Water re-use - it's in our nature
Water reuse is not new. It is part of a continuous chain that has linked all creatures,
life and humanity for more than three billion years.
The Colorado River receives 280 discharges of used water before becoming the source
of drinking water for the citizens of Los Angeles. The Rhine River catchment covers
nine countries and is a drinking water source for 20 million people.
In Australia there are many treatment plants that discharge the water used by local
communities into the river. Downstream, the river water is often abstracted, treated
and supplied for drinking purposes. Canberra currently discharges its used water
into the Molonglo River, which eventually is used to supply cities along the Murrumbidgee
and Murray Rivers.
Water binds us all.
